J&K bowled out for 111 in chase of 279; Smaran’s century, bowlers seal ROI win

Srinagar, Oct 04 (KNO): Rest of India defeated Jammu and Kashmir by 167 runs in the Irani Cup at the Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar on Sunday. Chasing a target of 279, J&K, as per the details collected by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), were bowled out for 111 in 28.4 overs, handing Rest of India a comprehensive victory on the fourth day of the five-day contest. Rest of India had been in trouble at 197 for eight in their second innings before Ravichandran Smaran’s unbeaten 126 off 131 balls, studded with 15 fours and five sixes, helped them recover and set J&K a challenging target. For J&K, Umar Nazir Mir and Sahil Lotra claimed three wickets each in Rest of India’s second innings, while Lone Nasir Muzaffar had earlier taken three wickets. J&K, who had taken a 41-run first-innings lead, were rescued from 166 for eight by Paras Dogra’s 75, Abdul Samad’s 57 and Lone Nasir Muzaffar’s attacking 64. However, the hosts could not replicate that resistance in the chase, losing wickets regularly to be dismissed for 111. For Rest of India, Mukesh Kumar took two wickets in J&K’s first innings and also struck in the hosts’ chase, while the visitors’ bowling attack wrapped up the match inside four days. The match was the first Irani Cup encounter to be hosted in Srinagar. Scorecard: Rest of India 237 & 319; J&K 278 & 111 (28.4 overs). Rest of India won by 167 runs.—(KNO)
